The image captures the very last rays of light in very clear dry air near Pecos Texas. The SWD is part of a network of over 20 SWDs linked together for midstream salt water deposal.  At 16 billion pixels, the image is the highest resolution I have taken. Prints are available up to 160 inches wide and murals up 90 feet.

Remnant At Square Lake (2018)

Remnant At Square Lake  was photographed in the Permian Basin near the sand hills of Square Lake in Northwestern Lea County New Mexico. The location is an old stripper well originally drilled around 1980.  The Pump Jack was photographed at a close upward angle using a tilt shift or perspective control lens.  The use of this lens renders perfect focus thought the image. The lens also provides a strong three dimensional feel when used in this way.

Holding On To Summer (2017)

Holding On To Summer features an SWD photographed against a beautiful turbulent sunset in the central Delaware Basin of Western Texas. My favorite time of year to photograph the Delaware is during the rainy season from June through October. With the right light an ordinary oilfield asset such as this one can be turned into a work of art. This image is actually a composite of 63 high resolution images into one panorama that is up to 16 times the resolution of traditional professional photography. The bump in resolution and detail allows the image to be used as a fine art wall mural as large as 20x40 feet.  The image can also be reproduced as a fine art print with a sense of depth and detail that few people will ever see. Fine art prints on canvas or smooth water color paper are available from 12x24" to 40x80".  Going into 2018 I will be photographing  water infrastructure and Midstream oil & gas assets throughout the Delaware Basin. Commissioned projects are available.

A long abandoned pump jack stands frozen in stride on the High Plains of Eastern New Mexico. "Two Booms Back" has always been a favorite image.  A wide angle perspective control or tilt shift lens gives this image near perfect focus in all areas.  The strong three dimensional feel in the image is enhanced by shifting the lens up while keeping the camera and sensor level.  In late 2013 the image was added to the fine art collection of British Petroleum in London.  Oil and Gas Photography for Fine Art By Robert D. Summer Sky (2013)

The wide open high grassland of Chavez County New Mexico is the setting for "Summer Sky".  Each year the summer monsoon season brings continuous thunderstorm activity from July through September to the mile high prairie of East Central New Mexico.  2014 has brought over twenty inches of rain in less than six weeks and helped to alleviate a four year drought.  The area is dominated by shallow and medium depth gas and oil production established in the boom of the early 80's.  Today only a hand full of shallow vertical wells have been drilled here over the past few years. "Sunset At Outland" features a Champion pump jack or pumping unit on a Devon federal lease in far Western Lea County New Mexico.  A long set of exposures captures the rapid movement of a Jet Max moving through the mid and upper atmosphere. A Jet Max is a core of rapidly moving wind in the upper atmosphere.  The wind at 30,000 feet was blowing out of the west at 220 knots.  A fetch of moisture originating off the coast of Baja Mexico is seen caught up in the wind and being rapidly ejected eastward.   The photograph is a 160 megapixel composite featuring multiple focus points using the newly released Zeiss 55mm f/1.4 Otus Distagon.  The result is an image with near perfect focus in all zones near to far.  The image may be printed 60x120" with no loss of detail and architectural Installations are available up to 30x60 feet.  The image will be the featured artwork for February at Taste@508 a European Cafe and coffee shop located across the street from the Petroleum Club in downtown Midland Texas. An Unfinished Story

"An Unfinished Story" was originally just a test shot from an infrared modified camera on a new location I was scouting in March of 2014. The image has since become a popular item in my Sepia Collection.  Look for a grand color or sepia panoramic from this location featuring the large thunderstorm complexes that frequently move out of Southern Colorado into the Texas Panhandle over the Summer months.  Most of the locations I choose to photograph are scouted months or years in advance. Particular weather events provide the backdrop I am looking for. Wide open locations like this one where the camera is directed northeast provide an incredible foreground for a thunderstorm complex up to 200 miles away.   The image here was captured utilizing a new prototype 100 inch tripod and panoramic head from Really Right Stuff.  The height above the ground contributes to the view all the way to the horizon miles away.  Oil & Gas Photography for fine art by Robert D. Of Man And Nature

Natural gas gathering assets and cows on a high mesa compressed against The Wind River Range in early Summer 2014.  This image was photographed to be used as a very large scale mural up to 20x60 feet. The high level of detail also makes for an incredible fine art print.  The image is composed of 1.24 billion pixels and was photographed at 600mm with a camera mounted in an enclosure to isolate it from the wind.  Oil & Gas Photography for fine art by Robert D. The Onset Of Chaos

"The Onset Of Chaos"  A lone pump jack stands idle in the still air moments before the passage of an arctic front drops the temperature by 35 degrees in in fifteen minutes.  This is a 60 megapixel high resolution infrared sepia toned black& white image photographed in early spring on the Northern high plains of Eastern New Mexico.  The image is also available in color. The image here was captured utilizing a new prototype 100 inch tripod and panoramic head from Really Right Stuff.  The height above the ground contributes to the view all the way to the horizon miles away.   Expect to see more photography from this wonderful wide open landscape during the Summer of 2014.  Oil & Gas Photography for fine art by Robert D. Last Breath

"Last Breath"  Features a Sentry pump jack or pumping unit on the Texas and New Mexico border in far Northern Culberson County Texas.  While this is oil production, this area of the Delaware Basin has been the stage for substantial deep lateral gas plays by companies such as Cimarex, Anadarko and EOG Resources.  The Image was taken in January 2014.  The unit is shown here without the Sentry Brand but may be included upon request.  The wide open landscape of Northern Culberson County has been a favorite backdrop for my Oil & Gas work since first photographing here in early 2012.  I have a number of upcoming commissioned projects based here throughout 2014.  Oil & Gas Photography by Robert D. Delaware Frac Panorama In Sepia

The far Western Delaware Basin is the setting for Delaware Frac Panorama. The image is a 2:1 ratio high resolution composite of 63 photographs in 7 levels of light. The image was originally engineered to be a 16x30 foot fine art mural. At this resolution the finest of details are evident in large format prints.  The combination of resolution and sepia toned black & white make the photograph appear to be a very detailed pencil drawing. The image contains all the elements of a complex frac site set in a very harsh environment.  Guadalupe Pass can be seen at Midwinter flanking the location past sunset.  Fine Art Oil & Gas Photography By Robert D. Flaherty.

One In Silence

"One In Silence" features a Sandridge Energy pumpjack on a University lease in Western Andrews County Texas. This is a very detailed print made with the Zeiss Otus 55mm lens. This lens is currently the highest performing lens available. The pastel colors and detail in the image are especially nice on fine art water color paper.  The photograph is available in ratios ranging from normal 2:3 to a 2:1 panorama.  The image featured here is a 2:1 panorama.  The print is best displayed at a color temperature of 5000k which is the equivalent of outside light. The photograph is my featured print for March 2015 in my studio gallery located in Odessa Texas.  Look for my new studio gallery opening Fall 2015 in Alto New Mexico. Photo © copyright by Robert D.
