Anticline Prairie Panorama (2018)

Anticline Prairie Panorama is a high resolution 4:1 panorama composited from 112 images. The image was taken in early June on the Pinedale  Anticline at the base of the Wind River Mountains near Pinedale Wyoming. Unit Drillng Rig 125 is featured pad drilling one of 16 directional gas wells from this 10 acre location. At nearly 8000 feet Spring comes in early June in this area.  Rig 125 has drilled directional gas wells on the Anticline for the past 8 years. Prints are available on fine art canvas and fine art paper from 12x48" to as large as 24x96". At 12 billion pixels, the image is especially well suited for a very large wall mural up to 60 feet.

A Corroboration of Elements (2017)

A Corroboration of Elements was photographed in Western Lea County New Mexico in the Spring of 2017.

The 3:1 panorama consists  of 98 separate images rendering 7 levels of light. The image was captured right after the passage of an early Spring severe thunderstorm. The characteristic lime green can be seen in the new Spring leaves of the Mesquite ground cover wet from 2 inches of rain. 2017 turned out to be a stormy Summer for the Permian Basin and especially the Western Delaware Basin. The process of combining 98 high resolution images together to make the panorama creates an image that is 20 times the resolution of conventional commercial photography. The result is a level of detail that very few people have seen in a photograph.   Fine art oil & gas photography by Robert D. Flaherty. Photo © copyright by Robert D. Flaherty.

Prelude To Darkness

Prelude To Darkness is set in the rolling hills of the Thunder Basin National Grassland in Northeastern Wyoming. Early fall means cool crisp evenings with 200 mile visibility. Perfect weather for high resolution photography.  An alpine wind break was used here to shelter the camera from a 15 mile per hour wind thus insuring absolute image sharpness. The image consists of 3 vertical 50 megapixel exposures combined to make one 120 megapixel image. The Zeiss Otus 85mm 1.2 was used to capture the image. The Zeiss 85mm Otus is currently the worlds sharpest 85mm lens.  Prelude To Darkness is a featured print for the month of October in my studio gallery at Topside overlooking Ruidoso New Mexico. The Golden Moment (2018)

The Golden Moment features Frontier Rig 26 drilling a deep directional well in the Northern Delaware Basin. Wether on fine art paper or fine art canvas,  The image looks best spot lit with 4000K led lighting.  The image was taken at sunset in Western Lea County New Mexico during the dry Winter of 2018. The clouds above the rig were caused by high winds aloft passing over the Guadalupe Mountains of Western Texas and New Mexico.  This cloud type is often referred to as a lens cloud. The image is a non HDR composite of 16 levels of light ranging from white to total black. This allows the sun to be held back completely to its original shape while rendering all details in the foreground and drilling rig down to the finest details. Conventional photography would only allow the drilling rig and foreground to be displayed as a black silhouette.  The image is an 85mm capture made with the Zeiss Otus 85mm 1.4.  The lens has the distinction of being the highest performing lens ever made. The type of lens I choose and the resolution I photograph in are a large part of the very fine detail that my work is known for.

An Evening To Remember (2017)

An Evening to Remember is set in the Northern Delaware Basin of Eastern New Mexico. The image features Silver Oak Rig 1 drilling between Carlsbad and Artesia New Mexico just after an evening thunderstorm. The image was taken at the end of a late monsoon season in October 2017. The panorama consist of 63 high resolution images rendering 7 levels of light. The final panorama has a ratio of 2:1 and suitable resolution for a 12x24 foot fine art mural. Fine art prints with extraordinary detail are available up to 40x80".  Fine art oil & gas photography by Robert D. Flaherty. Photo © copyright by Robert D. Flaherty.

The End Of Tranquility (2017)

The End Of Tranquility was shot during the 2017 Summer Monsoon in the Western Delaware Basin near Orla Texas. The image was made using three high resolution cameras calibrated together and aimed each at a third of the location.  The three images are then composited together to make one very high resolution image. The use of three cameras is necessary when photographing lightning due to its unpredictable and transitory nature.  The end result is the highest quality image possible.  This is especially important when producing very large scale fine art photography such as a fine art mural.  The resolution in this print would support a mural up to 16 feet wide. The boost in resolution also makes for very finely detailed fine art prints on canvas or water color paper.

Above And Beyond

"Above and Beyond" features a Patterson UTI drilling rig and double frac job in the Jona field below the Wind River Range of Northwestern Wyoming. The photograph was taken in early June 2014 in the first two weeks of warm weather.  This is a high resolution composite panoramic photograph engineered to be printed as a wall mural up to 30 feet in length. This resolution also makes for an a highly detailed fine art piece in standard 2:1 sizes.  Oil & Gas Photography for fine art by Robert D. Flaherty. Photo © copyright by Robert D. Flaherty.
