The Sepia Collection

A collection of my most popular sepia toned black and white Oil & gas Photography. Originally developed to complement dark brown leather furniture, The Sepia Collection is especially well suited for large unified corporate collections.  Each photograph is optimized for 4000K spot lighting. When properly lit, the images have much more dynamic range and often have a three dimensional feel not possible in flat office light at lower color temperatures.

Time And Experience

Western Delaware Basin Texas

Time And Experience was photographed in the mountains of the far Western Delaware Basin of Western Texas. Noram rig 24 is shown drilling a directional well for Cimarex and Chevron in the Triple Crown field during the 2015 summer monsoon season. This is a high resolution instant composite panorama made by photographing the left, center and rights quadrants simultaneously with 3 separate but matching camera systems.  The three cameras were attached to a 48" nodal bar and calibrated to capture all three parts of the image at the precise instant the lightning struck.  The result is a image that is twice the resolution of a single frame. Only a few photographers world wide use this technique to instantly capture lighting in high resolution. Photo © copyright by Robert D. Flaherty.

Edge Of Day Sepia

Eddy County New Mexico

This is the sepia version of "Edge Of Day" an old pump jack photographed in January 2010 on a Concho Federal lease in Eddy County New Mexico. The location was taken out of service in late 2012 but remains one of my most popular images especially in large format. The color image was converted to sepia at the request of a Houston interior designer.   I liked it so much that decided to add it to the Sepia Collection. Photo © copyright by Robert D. Flaherty.

An Unfinished Story

Northern New Mexico

"An Unfinished Story" was originally just a test shot from an infrared modified camera on a new location I was scouting in March of 2014. The image has since become a popular item in my Sepia Collection.  Look for a grand color or sepia panoramic from this location featuring the large thunderstorm complexes that frequently move out of Southern Colorado into the Texas Panhandle over the Summer months.  Most of the locations I choose to photograph are scouted months or years in advance. Particular weather events provide the backdrop I am looking for. Wide open locations like this one where the camera is directed northeast provide an incredible foreground for a thunderstorm complex up to 200 miles away.   The image here was captured utilizing a new prototype 100 inch tripod and panoramic head from Really Right Stuff.  The height above the ground contributes to the view all the way to the horizon miles away.  Oil & Gas Photography for fine art by Robert D. Flaherty. Photo © copyright by Robert D. Flaherty.

Summer Sky Panorama In Sepia

The wide open high grassland of Chavez County New Mexico is the setting for "Summer Sky Panorama In Sepia".  Each year the summer monsoon season brings continuous thunderstorm activity from July through September to the mile high prairie of East Central New Mexico.  2014 has brought over twenty inches of rain in less than six weeks and helped to alleviate a four year drought.  The area is dominated by shallow and medium depth gas and oil production established in the boom of the early 80's.  Today only a hand full of shallow vertical wells have been drilled here over the past few years.
